EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Behind a pair of big games from seniors Darianne Seward and Miranda Crockett, the Morehead State women's basketball team defeated Jacksonville State 77-60 in the first round of the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Ford Center.

Seward poured in a season-high 26 points on 7-of-10 shooting with a career-best 10 makes from the charity stripe while Crockett notched her fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Crockett has now scored 10-plus points in 36 consecutive games dating back to February 15, 2018.

"I felt like our team came out focused," said Eagles' head coach Greg Todd. "To perform how we did offensively in the first half against one of the best defensive teams in our league is a testament to our preparation leading into this game."

Morehead State closed the first quarter on a 14-5 run over the final 5:07 to pull in front 22-13 after one. The Eagles went on to build their lead with another impressive run of 12-0 from 9:59 to 4:46 of the second quarter on their way to a 42-23 halftime advantage.

The second half saw the Eagles control the tempo and run efficient offense as they racked up an OVC-high point total against the Gamecocks.

Morehead State managed to turn the ball over just seven times, which tied a season-low for the squad, while making nine assists. Seward dished a game-best four assists with no turnovers.

Graduate forward McKenzie Calvert joined Seward and Crockett in double figures with a 16-point effort. Calvert busted a pair of triples in the first half and finished 2-for-3 from deep.

The Eagles win the battle on the boards 43-38 led by junior guard Aliyah Jeune with a career-best 12 rebounds.

The win moves the Eagles to 23-9 overall, which is the second-highest win total in the program's 49-year history.

Jacksonville State's season ends with a 15-15 mark. Forward Rayven Pearson led the Gamecocks in both points (17) and rebounds (14).

Morehead State will next play in the semi-final round of the OVC Tournament on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The Eagles will take on the winner of No.3 UT Martin and No.6 Murray State in that game.
