The following notice provided by the Morehead Utility Plant Board:

Due to difficulties faced in chemically treating flood waters from the heavy rainfall on November 30, 2019 and December 1, 2019, the water at our current intake is not able to be treated within drinking water requirements.

The Morehead Utility Plant Board (MUPB) has reached out to the Army Corp of Engineers for assistance in water quality and release.

The water levels in MUPB's storage tanks have dropped to critically low levels. In order to maintain fire protection to the community, MUPB has been forced to put water into its distribution system that is above the maximum turbidity level of 0.3 NTUs.

As a result of this emergency, MUPB has initiated a system wide Boil Water Advisory at 4:01 P.M, on December 1, 2019 for all customers that receive our water until further notice.

This includes Bath Water and Rowan Water Inc.

An email sent to MSU students and faculty from the Vice President of Student Affairs Russell Mast said the following:

While MSU does maintain and operate our own water management system, there are a few campus buildings that are on the MUPB water system. In the best interest of our campus community, we are taking every necessary precaution to ensure your water quality and safety.

Faculty and staff, please plan accordingly and bring bottled water with you to work.

Students, please used bottled water for drinking purposes, brushing your teeth, etc. If you live on-campus, you will receive additional information from Student Housing. Please watch for it in your email.

Dining locations will be open, with the exception of Starbucks. There will be no ice or fountain drinks available.

The Recreation and Wellness Center, including the pool, will remain open.
