MOREHEAD, Ky. – After falling behind in the second half, the Morehead State soccer team netted three unanswered goals to upend Ohio Valley Conference counterpart Jacksonville State, 3-1, on senior day Sunday afternoon at Jayne Stadium.

The teams played to a scoreless tie at the halftime break before the Gamecocks' Emma Meadows found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Jacksonville State held the lead until the Eagles' offense found footing with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.

Freshman forward Colleen Swift sparked the comeback effort with a goal in the 75th minute off a well-placed cross by senior forward Cara Maher.

Swift, who now has three goals during the 2018 season, has scored in back-to-back matches while Maher has picked up an assist in back-to-back outings.

Senior defender Makenna Lavatori scored the deciding goal in the 83rd minute. Lavatori positioned herself in the right place for a rebound shot after a Morehead State corner kick was headed off the post by freshman Defender Nicole Palmer.

Lavatori's goal was the first of her career. The senior has started in 73-of-74 matches played and amassed 6,688 minutes during her time as an Eagle.

In the 86th minute senior Dani Wilson put the game out of reach by connecting on a penalty kick after the Gamecocks committed a foul on a Morehead State player in the box.

Wilson has now booted home seven goals on the season and is a perfect 2-for-2 from the penalty stripe.

Senior goalkeeper Michelle Washburn picked up the victory in goal after turning away four Jacksonville State shots. Washburn is now a perfect 3-0 against OVC opponents when starting in net for the Eagles.

"What this team has down the last three weeks has been phenomenal," said head coach Warren Lipka. "The confidence we are playing with is what we have been looking for and the chemistry we have right now is incredible."

Prior to the match, Lipka and his staff honored eight seniors. Washburn, Wilson, Maher, Lavatori, Haley Best, Abby Timm, Samantha Demante and Shelby Huddleston were each recognized and started in their final regular-season match at Jayne Stadium.

"We've had a couple tough years but this class has truly bought into changing the culture of this program and each of them have been tremendous leaders and had a huge impact on this team," said Lipka.

For the Gamecocks, Morgan Lerch suffered the loss in goal after conceding three goals on 14 shots faced. Offensively Madison Carruthers fired two shots on goal while Meadows goal was the lone of seven JSU shots to pass by Washburn.

The Eagles improved their record 5-11 overall and are now 4-4 in conference after winning their third consecutive OVC match.

Jacksonville State dropped its record to 3-11-2 and are now 1-7 in the OVC after losing its' sixth consecutive match.

Morehead State will close out its' 2018 regular season on the road with matches at conference foes Muray State and UT Martin. The Eagles and Racers are due to kickoff at 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday in Murray, Ky., while the October 21 match with the Skyhawks is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
