From all-new restaurants, more hangout spaces and “study pods”- newly renovated ADUC is back and already packed with MSU students.

Though the Adron Doran University Center was officially opened last November after over two years of renovation, some of the offices and all of the restaurants were still under construction. As the spring semester began for students on Monday, ADUC opened its doors to a completed renovation and four new dining options.

The front doors of Prefontaine Tower opened up to somewhere that, for those who remember “old” ADUC, looked completely unfamiliar. Arching stairways curved through the floors, the latest MSU basketball game was projected on a two-floor-spanning wall and the downstairs floor sported the new “Prefontaine Pub,” a bar-food type of joint with an attached lounge area.

On the main floor, three new fast-food options have been added, and the lines were already long with students at lunch rush hour. Steak n’ Shake, Which Which and Moe’s accompany the usual options of Chic-Fil-A and Topio's Pizza/Pasta.

"I love the renovations," said MSU senior Brooke Hale. "My favorite part is having restaurants with full menus instead of the limited options we used to have."

Of course, ADUC can’t be ADUC without Starbucks. Located on the bottom floor, the coffee spot now has a much larger seating area and a longer counter space.

The expansion of the building turned out to be a whopping 71,000 square feet added onto the existing 126,000 square foot building, and cost $49.5 million.

“The renovation of ADUC has been a long and sometimes interruptive process for our campus as construction was underway, however, now that it is complete it was worth the wait and the interruptions,” said MSU President Dr. Morgan. “The facility is great, the food is excellent and this venue for our students is just what they need."

Additional new amenities in ADUC include a 100-seat theatre for special events, additional meeting rooms for student activities, a new ballroom that seats 600 people and outdoor landscaped areas for picnic tables and benches.

"Growing up in Morehead, there’s not a lot of food options, so I like that ADUC has options I don’t have otherwise," said MSU sophomore Destiny Hampton. "I like that there’s a lot of seating and variety of seats too. It’s easier to study at ADUC now, because not everyone is crammed into a little building."
