Morehead and Morehead State were given the ranks of one of the safest cities in Kentucky and one of the safest campuses in the United States.

Morehead was ranked one of Kentucky’s safest cities in a list by Safewise, a security company that ranks the safety of automobiles, homes and towns.

“MSU has been a part of the community for many years and I believe we contribute to the community through a number of factors,” said Morehead State President Jay Morgan.

In addition to Morehead being named the fifteenth safest city in Kentucky, MSU was named the eighteenth safest campus in the United States.

Morgan said students are able to stay safe in a small and close-knit campus where there are always faculty and staff looking out for their well-being.

Many believe the safety of Morehead and MSU lie on the fact that there are four police departments in Rowan County: campus police, Morehead police, Kentucky State Police and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department.

“We also have good partnerships and communication with the city, county, St. Claire and other local groups and we share resources and that also makes our community strong,” said Morgan.
