An education major at Morehead State refuses to let Governor Matt Bevin's controversial pension reform bill discourage her from following her dreams.

Hannah Osborn is a Middle Grades Science and Learning and Behavior Disorders major, and she has wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember. However, the new legislature signed by Bevin has some future educators worried about what lies ahead.

“The bill is cutting billions of dollars that go towards benefiting Kentucky teachers, and a lot of this money being from the Kentucky teachers’ retirement system,” said Osborn. “Future teachers like myself will be forced to work for much longer in exchange for less benefits.”

Osborn expressed her frustration at the issue.

"Teachers selflessly put in hours and hours of work just to shape the lives of their students," she added. "It's frustrating to think that the same people who are putting in so much of their own time are being given less than what they deserve."

Despite the controversy surrounding her future career, Osborn remained optimistic.

"I have a special place in my heart for teaching,” she said. “It's my own teachers that have inspired me to want to do the same thing and impact the lives of my own students one day. I can confidently say that nothing, not even a pension bill, can scare me away from teaching."
