In order to recognize some of Morehead State’s successful students, the Student Government Association hosted the annual Student Choice Awards.

The SCA have been around for around 10 years, and began by only honoring a small portion of the awards given out more recently. Awards like Student of the Year, Staff of the Year, Community Service Project of the Year, and many more are given out to the groups and students who have been selected by a committee in SGA.

This year, decisions were made based on how the student body voted through a new online application process on SGA’s website. While some awards were voted on by students, others were discussed by the committee in order to fairly make a decision on who should win which awards.

The SCA were originally created to honor students and organizations for their hard work and to encourage them to continue their efforts in the future to better our campus.

“In order to continue success, there need to be recognition of the good that has been done,” explained current Vice President for Campus Involvement Andrew Sexton.

Throughout the years, there have been many changes made in order to improve this event and increase its success. Switching from paper to electronic methods, as well as being able to use a new facility and invite higher level administration to the event made this years’ event even better than it was in the past.

Sexton expressed his wishes for more competition and involvement in this event in the future and for more students to attend and support others to make this a long-lasting Morehead tradition.
