The first step the new Student Government Association president is taking is to defend the needs of the Morehead State University students.

Newly-elected Colby Birkes realized he made a difference as vice president during the last year, and was determined to take it a step further.

“I plan on increasing the parking, we’re in the planning of a concert, and we will increase the safety of the students with more lighting around campus at night,” said Birkes. “We will also increase dental care.”

Birkes has dedicated the coming week tdiversity. Monday, April 15, will be a day dedicated to Gender Equality. Tuesday will be dedicated to the tolerance of different religions, Wednesday will focus on racial equality and Thursday is United Nations Day. International students will be giving out ribbons to symbolize peace. Friday will be dedicated to the tolerance of different sexual orientations.

Birkes is asking for students who would like to participate in a massive diversity video that will take place on Thursday, April 18 at 3 p.m.

“The video will be about different students saying the same phrase to symbolize that we may look different on the outside, but in the inside, we are all the same,” Birkes explained.
