Ceramic labors of love were on sale for Valentine’s day this week.

Morehead State University’s Ceramics Guild put their pieces on sale for Valentine’s day to raise funds. The sell took place between February 13 and February 14 on the first floor of the Adron Doran University Center.

The work included Valentine’s themed pieces as well as ceramic fortune cookies.

The Ceramics Guild is a student organization that promotes the ceramic arts and education.

All pieces in the sale were made by students and faculty. Some of the pieces were made in the weeks prior the sale, and others were made for sales in the past. The money made by sale went to the creators of each piece, after a percentage went to the guild.

Members of the Ceramics Guild described the club as an opportunity to make functional art with clay.

James Davidson, a member of the Ceramics Guild, explained that he had his doubts at first.

“I didn’t think I’d like it at first, because I’m more of a 2D person, but as I started getting it, I realized I could make functional items,” said Davidson, who helped run the stall. "That's really more interesting than just making a painting and looking at it. I can pick up the mug I made. It's functional."

The money raised will also help some of the guild members cover a percentage of the costs to attend the National Conference for Education of Ceramics Arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota this March.
