MSU commencement has been postponed and set for December 12, 2020.
An email from Interim Provost Bob Albert said due to circumstances with COVID-19 and the recommendation from the CDC, they decided to have a special ceremony for students graduating in the Spring and Summer 2020 semesters.
“Earning a college degree is a remarkable achievement and one that deserves a celebration,” said Albert in the email.
The ceremony will only be for graduates in those semesters and will not be combined with the fall commencement ceremony.
The decision does not impact the completion date for students and it will not affect the arrival of diplomas. The email estimated that diplomas will arrive roughly six to eight weeks after the degree requirements are met.
“We realize this decision will be very upsetting to many of you,” he said in the email. “Please know it is not one that we wanted to make. Ensuring the health and well-being of our MSU family is our highest priority at this time.”
